Community statistics
Puyallup is in the heart of eastern Pierce County where housing and business
development are growing at one of the highest rates in Washington. Indeed,
Puyallup’s population is projected to increase 30 percent by the year 2018.
The city is already the largest in the east county area, which includes the cities and towns of Sumner, Bonney Lake, Buckley and Orting, as well as the unincorporated (outside formal city boundaries) but developed areas of South Hill and Graham. All are increasing in population and are served by Good Samaritan Hospital.
These communities—including Puyallup—have a combined population of 218,000. Of those residents, 51 percent are male and 49 percent are female, 63 percent of the population is between the ages of 25 and 54, and 64 percent of the households have annual incomes of more than $35,000. The area’s median household income exceeds $45,000.
The median house value is $128,524 and rising, as the population continues to grow and the demand for housing increases.
Although Good Samaritan Hospital is the largest employer (2,400 employees) in Puyallup, other major employers include The Boeing Co., Microsoft, the State of Washington, Puyallup School District and Port of Tacoma.
Puyallup and the surrounding area served by Good Samaritan Hospital comprise a prosperous region that enjoys a low crime rate and offers nearly unlimited opportunities for education, careers and recreation.
