Transfusion Free Medical and Surgical Program
Currently no practical substitute exists for blood and
the hemoglobin molecule in blood that transports vital oxygen to the body’s
tissues. Blood transfusions can be lifesaving, but are associated with
significant risks. As a result of these risks, personal preferences, and
religious beliefs, some patients choose to receive transfusion free medical
and surgical services. In response, Good Samaritan has developed a team
approach to ensure the best possible outcomes when the decision has been
made to avoid blood transfusions.
The Good Samaritan Transfusion Free Program offers the following:
Commitment of the hospital staff to provide high-quality
medical and surgical care with respect for a patient’s informed decision
not to use blood products. Our commitment to quality care
The mission of the Good Samaritan Transfusion Free Medical and Surgical
Program is to provide quality, effective healthcare while respecting
the dignity and values of all persons, as well as their individual beliefs.
